This breeder going by the name of Catherine Carroll appeared to be a very
nice lady. She had a number of Maine Coons and she seemed both knowledgeable
and concerned for their welfare. My partner and I made it clear we would offer a loving home, with at least one of us often around and a cat companion for the Maine Coon we wanted to buy. She took our £100 deposit for one Maine Coon
kitten called Barney Bear and also invited us to "make an offer" for a second kitten she
had. She has a website: Sugar Candy Kittens.
It only went wrong around two weeks later when I inquired about Barney Bear via
email. She replied saying the kitten was ill and would not be available
for a further two or three weeks. We said we could possibly wait a bit longer and it would be good
to discuss the situation. But she failed to engage with this and only seemed
interested in returning our deposit.
We then inquired about the other kitten for whom she had invited us to make
an offer. We also failed to get a clear answer on this as she did not respond to direct questions via email. Eventually we gave in
and sent over our bank details in order to get the deposit back. This then took
a few days of chasing up via email as she gave us a story about how the bank
clerk had inputted the wrong details.
Eventually the cash was paid in and we
resumed our quest for a Maine Coon kitten.
At this stage, we weren't sure what to make of Ms Carroll. We had taken her on her word that Barney Bear had fallen ill. But we couldn't understand why she refused to enage with us about the possibility of us waiting a while longer to collect him - or why she wouldn't discuss the possibility of us taking the other kitten for which we had previously been invited to make an offer.
I would like to add to this blog about the breeder that goes by the name Catherine Caroll in Wantage, she owns the breeder title Sugar Candy Kittens.
ReplyDeleteMy Partner and I also went looking for a Mainecoon in October of 2013, we found Ms Caroll and her kittens via her website, we went to view her kittens which we had seen on the website.
We were unsure how to take her, she appeared knowledgeable and caring about her cats however the house was a state and smelling quite strong, it appeared as though the cats lived in the house first and her second. The kittens looked a bit worse for wear however she told us that the mother had just licked them all to clean them. she showed us the father and we watched the mother interact with the kittens, all appeared well.
HOWEVER the troubles came after we put a deposit down and agreed to purchase the kitten, she told us constant lies, the date to pick him up changed because again he was ill however she said he simply had conjunctivitis and to use eye drops. A few days later his eye got really swollen and we rang her unsure what to do, she said to keep him at home and not to bother with the vet, we decided to go to the vet because we worried and we found out he has CAT FLU!!, it would appear that she likely breeds cats with cat flu because we found out latter that the mother had been ill during pregnancy which she had failed to tell us until we really pushed the questions. She also failed to give us the pedigree certificate because she told us that one of her cats had peed on her laptop and so she would hand write it. It has been over 6 months since we bought our kitten and after constant lies and I mean constant lies, we still have not received the pedigree certificate or partial refund, she now hangs up on us as soon as she knows it us calling.
DO NOT USE THIS BREEDER!!! She is only interested in making money

ReplyDeleteI bought a maine coon female of catherine carroll of wantage oxfordshire at first she seemed nice i am a owner of 9 maine coons .i let the kitten out of the basket and it flew to the window. I assume trying to find a way out. I was not expecting this as all mine stay in their basket and come out gradually. I realised she was ferral. She stopped eating so i took her to my vets who said she had a liver shunt. I contacted catherine carroll. She told me to take the kitten out of the vets that were going to send her to a spesialist and take her back to her where she would take her to her vets. She told me ill refund you the 500 id paid for her and the 100 id paid at the vets . So i agreed and took the kitten back. She then turned very nasty and refused to give me my money back . She stopped answering all phone calls and emails . After being very nasty on emails. So i phoned the police and got ready to take her court . The police contacted catherine carroll. And it was all excuses. I was made to take down my reviews by her to get my money back. Eventually after 3 months . This beast refunded me . Her kittens are ferral she breeds that many its not possible to give kittens them the love and human contact they so vitally need in the early stages. She wanted to keep my money and resell the kitten.
ReplyDeleteI bought a kitten from her in July. She gave me a load of lies, mislead me on vaccines etc and ended up with cat flu which she MUST have known about. today I had to have the kitten put down due to neurological disorders and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. She was 5 months old!

DeleteThe fact the kitten in question had only received a veterinary health check 30 minutes before you collected her plus the fact the kitten laid in your arms shows the kitten was not a feral.
The Police became a Mediator after threatening emails and telephone calls at 3am from yourself, which the Police informed you was not acceptable behaviour.
You know full well your refund was paid in full via a cheque as i forwarded a copy of the cheque and postage proof to the Police, they then went to your home to instruct that you do not contact me again.
I informed you once you took the kitten and sent me a photograph of how settled the kitten was, that only half a sachet food between 2 cats was not enough for the kitten, you ignored my advise on this and your kitten ended up at Vets4pets.
I spoke to my own veterinary surgeon to get my kitten back and treated with my own vet, she did not have a liver shunt.
The kitten in question was a healthy kitten for 14 weeks before you homed her, so that blame sticks with you, not me.
All my kittens are raised in the home, they each have alot of company from me, none are feral and they all receive veterinary health checks, unlike the kittens you are selling who never see's a vet.
If people wish to listen to you, that is up to them, but tell the whole truth with reviews and not your own version.
There are many happy customers who return for a kitten, you are just one person who ignored advise.
Good thing is, you will never get my pedigree line as my Contracts states not to sell any to you.
You carry on and con other breeders. Hopefully the new law will stop the back yard breeders like yourself, and focus more on the ethical side of breeding.
You gave me a kitten with cat flu. She never had the full course of vaccs. You rehomed her before me but didnt tell me that. You gave me the run around with regards to a cheque fir vets fees, which I git EVENTUALLY. You told me the father was a stud and not your own but then both of your cats are listed as the parents. Today my kitten was put to sleep due to congenital conditions at 5 months old. Stay away from this 'breeder'

ReplyDeleteCatherine is one of the most caring, compassionate and ethical Maine Coon breeders I have come across. Her passion is to breed healthy socialised kittens from strong lines and as such carries out all the advised health tests and vaccinations and sticks to a breeding plan that takes into the consideration the welfare of all her breeding cats. She would never knowingly send out a kitten that was not well, preferring to hold on to it until it was checked and fit to leave her. She is absolutely NOT motivated my money. Catherine is passionate about all cats and their welfare and is always offering to help and advise when a cat or kitten is in need. I would not hesitate to purchase a cat from Catherine knowing she will have done her utmost to ensure the kitten is healthy and socialised and ready to go to a caring new home.

DeleteWe have had 3 MC kittens over a 9yr period from Catherine. She does on occasion have health issues with some kittens, as I'm sure all breeders do. Our cats are friendly, healthy & beautiful & she is always ready to help if we need her. As for your accusations (bit slanderous there girl) have we heard the full story or just your side? Obviously your poor girl has had a rough ride in her short life, but I'm sure you gave her all the care you could & she still died.was it your fault? Is anybody putting the blame at your door. It's one thing to complain to the breeder but to publicly lynch her on many websites smacks of a Bitchfest. What exactly are you after? Catherine does not breed feral cats or kittens.
DeleteHer cats & kittens are regularly checked & rested & she has paper work to that effect. I have been connected with th Cats Protection for many years (Catherine was one of our fosterers- not a rescue centre as one of your witch hunts stated) & helped to look after many cats for us. If there had been any nehlect or health issues it would have been picked up on. I am so sorry you lost your beautiful kitten but it does happen. Kittens are like babies their immune systems are minute & she voukdve caught dieting at any time,not necessarily at her birth home. Please dort this out amicably without resorting to the immature way you have previously chosen.

ReplyDeleteCatherine kept me up to date throughout the early weeks of his life. Leo is now 8 months old and is a very healthy and happy Red Maine Coon.
I'm fortunate to live fairly close by and have stayed registered with Catherine's regular vets whom they all speak very highly of Catherine too.
Catherine is such a caring and compassionate breeder and is far more interested in her cats going to a loving home than she is about money.
I cannot recommend Catherine as a genuinely awesome breeder enough.

The only good thing that's come out of this is having the 2 I have now got. Absolutely stunning and healthy. The breeders were nice people . I saw mum and dad. What veterinary practice do you work in so that I and others CAN AVOID that to.

ReplyDeleteMs Carroll is known to the Maine Coon breeding community as a backyard breeder. She has no registered prefix, she registers via an admin prefix, selling cats at 9 weeks without a course of vaccines. She frequently sells unwell kittens too. She has falsified a rescue, stolen cats, and by her own admission has said that no one in the Maine Coon breeding community will sell to her. If you still insist on disbelieving facts, join a Maine Coon group on Facebook and ask for opinions of her, you will soon change your mind.
